PeriAnesthesia Nurse Awareness Week
February 6-12, 2012

 

 

Perianesthesia Nursing focuses on the care of patients undergoing surgery and invasive procedures that require sedation, analgesia, and anesthesia. To practice perianesthesia nursing, specialty nurses must have comprehensive knowledge and competencies that are grounded in scientific theory and practice.

 

Greetings to all NC PeriAnesthesia Nurses,

It is time for us to celebrate our specialty during PeriAnesthesia Nurse Awareness Week (PANAW) during Febuary 6-12, 2012!!  This is the ideal time for us to celebrate and promote the important practice of perianesthesia nursing in healthcare throughout the nation and world.

 

Our national organization, ASPAN (American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses), recognizes perianesthesia nurses this year with the theme, “A Vital Role in Patient Care.” We, the NCAPAN Board of Directors, celebrate with you.   You are vital in the care you provide all patients and family in pre-admission testing, inpatient and outpatient day of surgery units, pre and post anesthesia units, ambulatory care settings, Phase III settings, Special Procedures areas, Labor and Delivery Suites, Pain Management Services, and physician and dental offices.

 

Please take this time to be proud of the extraordinary care you provide to your patients and significant others.  Your role in the safe, competent delivery of patient care is recognized vital to our patient’s outcome.  Many of you here in NC are successfully honored with CPAN and/or CAPA certification (approximately 66%).  Quite an accomplishment you each should be proud because you are desired to rise above the standard of knowledge in your specialty.

 

The Board of Directors of NCAPAN salute  YOU and in honor of YOU unanimously voted to donate $300 to the North Carolina chapter of the USO which serves our armed service members and their families and in addition with this contribution, we honor all PeriAnesthesia nurses who are serving our country throughout the world.

 

Share and celebrate the pride of being a PeriAnesthesia Nurse and playing  a “Vital Role in Patient Care” this week and throughout the year, whether it’s in hanging a banner, celebrating with a meal, displaying PANAW lapel pins, or any other celebratory gesture.
